The Cunnies of Culdalee, Co. Sligo, Ireland

There appears to have been three main families of Cunnies in Culdalee and it is not certain whether they were related at all. I suspect they may have been related but much further back than I can trace at the moment.

I have distinguished the families as Cunnie, Cunny and Cunney but the different spellings often arose within branches of the same family. It  was also common for the name Quinn to be used on emigration to either UK or USA as this was more Anglicised and perhaps easier for the immigrant families to find work in a foreign land.

The family branches are :

• The descendents of Jack Cunnie and Mary O'Hara of Culdalee

• The descendents of Mark Cunny and Honor O'Hara of Culdalee

• The descendents of Michael Cunney and Brigid O'Hara of Carrane
